About Me

Hi! I’m the reproductionist for Victorian Rose Needlearts, Tinka Phillips-Markham. I suppose being from the second oldest city in Florida, it was natural that I have a love for antiques. Everywhere you look in Micanopy, you see a link to the past. In addition, I have loved needlearts since I was a young child. My grandmother and aunt were avid quilters and were the first to introduce me to what has been a lifelong love for needlearts of all types. My mother introduced me to samplers years ago. Victorian Rose Needlearts is dedicated to those who love the days gone by and, in particular, needlework samplers.

Artist statement:

Tinka Phillips-Markham’s ideal world is the 18th and 19th century English era predominant in her sampler reproductions. She enjoys reading about the romantic scenes among English nobility depicted by Jane Austen and the Bronte sisters. Her faith deeply influences the samplers she chooses to reproduce as well as inspiring her original work. She lives in rural north central Florida where she enjoys the abundance of nature and is drawn to samplers that have a profusion of flora and fauna. Tinka’s education is in communications, with graduate degrees in elementary education. She loves the enthusiasm and joy that young children display and marvels at the work of young school children that produced samplers from that bygone era.
